Privacy policy

Apophenia (com.betterappmafia.apophenia), by Better App Mafia. Effective 24 October 2026.

In short

Apophenia collects no personal data, and it can't send anything anywhere: it has no internet permission. There are no accounts, ads, analytics or crash reporting services.

The microphone

The app asks for the microphone permission (RECORD_AUDIO). The microphone is off when the app opens. It is open only while you record, while the tuner is on screen, and during an ear-training drill where you sing or play a note, and the screen always shows when it's on. What it hears is saved only when you record, as a file on your phone.

Your files

Your recordings, writing and projects are stored in the app's own storage on your phone. A backup is written only to the folder you choose, and an export only to the file you save. Files you import from your phone are copied into the app; the originals aren't changed.

On-device processing

Tempo, key and chord analysis, transcription into notes (Basic Pitch), stem separation (Spleeter) and speech to text (Moonshine) all run on your phone. Nothing is uploaded.

Children

The app collects no data from anyone, children included.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new effective date.
